Good Form (Lush Mix)

Sunday, June 15th-

Last night, my friend Wells sent me a text suggesting that I remix this song.

And, well, I immediately had to. I’ve honestly forgotten a lot of Nicki songs, since I don’t listen to her much anymore… I regret forgetting Good Form. Such a fun song! I really was obsessed with it back in the day, too. With that in mind, remixing it was extremely easy for me. It’s been such a long time since I’ve listened to it, that the remixing process was just as much about just enjoying listening to the song over and over after years without hearing it as it was changing the DNA of the track. It might carry the same essence and vibe as the original for that reason, but I tried to really go into the song and leave my own creative mark on it.

I used a bunch of synths that I often use. They have a bit of sentimental value, since they were used in one of my first remixes back in the day. One has this really cool, crystally, lush sound to them; the other sounds like a bunch of singing bowls in an abstract space. I try to incorprate them into all sorts of my songs, kinda as a way of saying, that even through a lot of change, it is always the same me who is there making the music, there’s always same creative source. They have this gorgeous soft sound to them, and I thought it’d be fun to see if I couldn’t make them work on a track that has an intense vibe. A personal test in versatility. I paired them with some cool darker patches I found, and this really fun clip of an Australian Didgeridoo. Tried to build the beat around that as the bass line, and well, I think it came out pretty cool. Thanks for the idea, Wells!
